I thought I would drop a note to let you know how the .17 Remington shot. After breaking in, I shot several groups that averaged .397, with the best group being .148, not bad for the first load I tried. Thanks again for the great work you did.

I received my model 12 about two weeks ago. I
am very pleased with it. The guys at the gun club have all commented on it. I seem to be
shooting it well, I shot a 17 with it at Skeet.
Thanks again,
Jim
Stan:
I was finally
forced to take the time to mount the scope, break in the new barrel etc. last week. Went
prairie dog hunting Fri., Sat., Sun. It was no surprise that the new barrel, pillar
bedding, etc. all turned out great.
When sighting in, I didn't worry much about the size of the groups, I just wanted it shooting 1/4 high. I couldn't help but notice that one group of five could be covered by a quarter. I had been a little concerned that going from a 1 in 12 twist might not give the explosive expansion on prairie dogs. I couldn't tell the difference. Again no surprises - everything worked out as great as it looks - and as good as I expected.
I am enclosing a little expression of gratitude for all the extras you did with out my requesting them, and without being charged for them. I did want to at least test fire it first, though. I appreciate your good work, your good attitude and your good service,
Bob
Dear Stan,
I thought I'd drop you a line to let you know how your
gun work panned out. At the range yesterday, the gun shot 5 shot groups routinely in the
1/2 and under category. The first 3 shot group measured in the .2's -- not bad for a
varmint gun.
My load consists of Fed. cases neck turned to .01325 (enough decimals?) and fireformed. I use about 49 grains of VV N160 to get the velocities in the 3600 to 3700 area (more testing needed to hone-in on a charge). 50 grains of the same powder proved to fill the case half way up the neck and the loads seemed a little on the warm side at 3850 fps!!!(+).
I have not tried any other bullet or powder and plan to stick with this powder as it seems to fill the case to 100% and gives me good velocity. I need to check it out on a warm day -- if we ever get one. So far I have just shot the Bergers but will try a few others and some seating depths changes as time permits. All rounds shot thus far are with the bullet lightly touching the rifling.
My dies are the New Redding with the floating bushing. I had to make a seater die. This is really neat! I have a slightly larger bushing (.273) which is the same diameter as the barrel. The case is fully contained by this bushing and is hand seated by means of a micrometer adjustable seaterstem I concocted. It all works out to give me loads that are within about .001 in runnout and are very easy to load.
ANYWAY the point is ----- your workmanship and quality seem to be all that I could expect for the type of gun. I am extremely well pleased with the accuracy and the over-all appearance of this piece. I hope that you do more in this area in time to come, so that you can get a 7mm/08 Ackley reamer to produce my next barrel for this rig.
I will work on the switch barrel wrench system in time to come. I am glad we went this route, in that the next barrel will provide me with a NEW gun -- all without the expense of another scope, action and stock.
Best Regards, Tom Peterson
I'm delighted with the outcome of the drop- magazine
retrofit. You did a super job especially considering the extra time and effort to get it
just right.
When you put together the like new fiberglass thumb cuts of the D.M. and the rail rework, it shows a wonderful range of skills.
Also thank you for personalized TLC. Your commitment to excellence not only shows in the finished product, but how you treat a customer.
Best Wishes,
Pete Jackson

Stan,
Just a note to let you know how pleased I am with the work you did for me on my 243 Ackley Improved 400.
The action is smooth, all 100 cases fireformed w/o any problems (no lost cases) and the throating is exactly what I had in mind. As you can see by the enclosed target accuracy is excellent!
Thanks again,
Al Nyhus

P.S. I think this is a good example of what a factory barrel with a quality chambering job is capable of.
